A travelling letter
Mail with the Zeppelin Postmark is something special
A letter with this postmark is of particular value and good for a particular purpose: With the first flight of the Zeppelin NT on the 18th September 1997, began a new chapter in Airship aviation history. To the cheers of thousand of spectators, the most modern airship to date lifted off into the sky from Friedrichshafen. But, not only airship travel was reborn, the highly coveted „Zeppelinpost“ was resurected – with the Zeppelin carrying special airmail for a “Kinderdorf” on board its first flight.
The organisation responsible for this airmail is the "Association of Friends of Children's Village Airmail eV". With the proceeds from the sale of the commemorative airmail letters going to support the Pestalozzi Children's Village in Wahlwies.
Since its maiden flight, the Zeppelin NT has transported airmail to mark various noteworthy political and social occasions. At the same time, the “Kinderdorf” airmail has documented the technical development of Lighter-than-Air aircraft.
Among the many loyal subscribers to the “Kinderdorf” airmail are the well-known stamp-dealers Hermann E. Sieger GmbH, Lorch – the worlds leading distributer of Zeppelinpost, the Swiss Aerophilatelisten Association, Deutsche Post AG and the Schweizerische Post.
